The Kansas Disability Caucus presented Wardcraft Homes, Inc with the prestigious Business Award for accessible and adaptable design in housing. Our customizable options allow you to design a home for your special needs, accessible adaptability or to meet ADA Standards. The Charleston III-C American Tradition home is designed for accessible adaptability (ask your builder for this new floor plan). Covered porches and ramps can also be added on-site. The following is a list of options that Wardcraft can provide to make your home accessible.

Doors and Hallways:
Our standard 2'-8" or 3'0" (optional) interior doors give wheelchair access to any room. Our homes can be designed for wall space on both sides of door for wheelchair accessibility. Optional lever handles allow you to open doors with an elbow or knee if hands are full.

Our 3'0" exterior doors can be ordered with handicap thresholds, sidelights at entry door or peep holes that can be placed at custom heights. Patio doors can be ordered with out-swing doors with handicap threshold for wheelchair accessibility to your backyard.

Construction:
Your home can be designed with 3'8" or wider halls to accommodate wheelchairs. Closets can be designed with a rod height at 4' for an easy reach. Shelves can be mounted at maximum height of 4'6" and maximum depth of 1'4" for easy access. If wheelchair access to the basement is needed we can frame out for an on-site elevator to give you complete access to multi-levels of your home.

Kitchen:
Your design plan can allow for knee space under the kitchen sink and an open area under countertops allowing for wheelchair access. Range with controls in front of the stove. Switches for disposal and range hood can be wired in base requirements. Countertop, open underneath, with a 2nd single sink and a lever handle gourmet faucet. Merillat Pemberton II cabinets are available at 32 ½" high with rollout trays and 9" high x 6" deep toe kick. Bridgewood cabinets can be custom made to accommodate special needs, such as raised dishwasher base cabinet and microwave base cabinet. Upper cabinets can be set lower for easier access. Drawers can be modified for a pull out workstation. Looped cabinet pulls are available.

Electrical:
Electrical outlets raised to 18" off of floor, switches, thermostat, wall phone boxes all set at 48" off of floor give easy access to wheelchair users. Rocker switches are available for easier manipulation.

Bathrooms:
Design your bathroom with a 5' turning radius for wheelchairs to meet ADA Standards. Include a handicap stool along with grab bars beside and behind the stool and a roll under vanity. Also available are wheelchair accessible showers recessed in the floor, grab bar, off-center anti-scald shower lever controls for easy operation and an adjustable height and removable shower head. A variety of whirlpools and soaking tubs are also available.
